First Time Disney Cruise FAQ’s

by Editor with no comments

Can I afford a cruise?

Cruises have give you a lot of value for your vacation.  So, yes. If you can afford a hotel week vacation, you can afford a cruise.

What do I get for my money?

A cruise price includes your cabin, all meals, entertainment, parties and, of course, all transportation between all the ports on your itinerary. Optional shore excursions and port charges are not included in the basic price as well as gratuity to servers which can be pre-paid.

Is there a lot to do on a Disney Cruise?

Yes.  There are many activities that begin at early and go into the wee hours of the night. Also every port is filled with new and exciting opportunities for exploration.

What can I do on the ship?

You can do so much on a cruise from swimming, watersliding,  exercise classes, dance,  play bingo or bridge, take in a Broadway-style floor show or a magician’s act, see a movie, get a spa treatment.

How long do cruises last?

Disney offers cruises that range from 3-14 nights.

Is airfare included in my cruise price?

Disney offers both a cruise-only price and an AIR/SEA price that includes connecting airfare, transfers between the airport and ship and baggage handling.

What’s a shore excursion?

That’s a term that refers to anything you do off the ship, in port. At every stop, you’ll have the option of exploring the area on your own or as part of a group with a planned itinerary.

Will I need a passport?

All cruises now require proof of citizenship. On some itineraries, a certified copy of your birth certificate and a driver’s license or government-issued photo I.D. are sufficient, on others a passport is required. Visas may also be required on the more exotic itineraries. Your cruise counselor will advise you on documents you will need depending on your itinerary.

Is a cruise Family Friendly?

It’s perfect for the family.  Large cruise ships are now designed with kids-only facilities, counselors, daytime activities and nighttime baby-sitting. Disney ships offer programs for kids of all ages.

How Do I Book A Cruise?

Call 1.888.551.7077 and a travel specialist will help you decide upon the right itinerary and cruise for you and your travel group.

A Day at Sea is a full day spent sailing between two ports. Most cruises include one or more Days at Sea.

Disney Cruise Kids Program

by Editor with no comments

Disney Cruise Line offers great kids programs on cruise ship.  With practically an entire deck devoted to kids, there’s non-stop fun each day from 9am to midnight for five distinct age groups. Kids ages 3 to 7 make magic at Disney’s Oceaneer Club.  Kids ages 8 to 12 explore the universe at Disney’s Oceaneer Lab.   Teens enjoy their own private area at The Stack, Aloft or Vibe.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club (ages 3-7) And Disney’s Oceaneer Lab (ages 8-12)

Siblings and Friends can play together on a Disney Cruise based upon interest level.

The Disney Cruise is devoted for fun and fantasy for children, tweens and teens.  Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab offer age-specific activities guaranteed to transport young minds to the edge of their imagination. Guided along the way by Disney counselors, of course. Parents sign their children in and out and, as an added convenience, parents are given pagers so families are always in touch.   Here is a sample of some of great activities planned on a Disney Cruise Ship.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club Activities Include:

Ages 3-7

Toy Story Boot Camp (Disney Magic and Wonder) – Join Corporal Green and the Green Army Soldiers from the hit Disney Pixar animated film series for a fun-filled, toy tour of duty.

Do-Si-Do with Snow White (Disney Magic and Wonder) –  Learn the “Dance of the Seven Dwarfs,” and then perform with a special guest.  Fun for the kids!

So You Want to be a Pirate (Disney Magic and Wonder) – Offers tales of the high seas, pirate training for young buccaneers and a special appearance by Captain Hook.

Mouseketeers in Training (Disney Magic and Wonder) – Kids enjoy Mouseketeer training. They receive a special inspection from Mickey Mouse himself.

Andy’s Room (Disney Dream and Fantasy) – Inside this vibrantly-colored room, the world of Disney Pixar’sToy Story comes to life. Children feel toy-sized, because everything around them is built large scale. Throughout this space, kids can play with larger-than-life characters from the animated film, including Rex the dinosaur, Hamm the piggy bank and Mr. Potato Head. In the center of room is Andy’s bed-the place in the room for kids to watch movies. This room also features a huge Slinky Dog structure that kids can climb through.

Monsters Academy (Disney Dream and Fantasy) – This area is based on the Disney Pixar animated filmMonsters, Inc. and features lovable monsters Mike and Sulley. Its centerpiece is an elaborately themed play structure, where kids can immerse themselves in the world of Monstropolis. It also boasts computers with unique interactive games. Kids can also dress up like a monster, with an assortment of monster costumes and props.

Pixie Hollow (Disney Dream and Fantasy) – Inspired by the series of Tinkerbell movies, this fun interactive space transports children to the magical world inhabited by fairies. A pixie dust tree stands in the corner of the room, with glittering lights twinkling among its leaves, and fun acorn and mushroom stools are sprinkled about for children to sit on. This endearing and tranquil environment is designed for dress-up play, individual craft projects and storytelling sessions.

Explorer Pod (Disney Dream and Fantasy) – Children can explore the Nemo Sub-a scaled version of a submarine inspired by the Disney Pixar animated film Finding Nemo. The bright blue and yellow submarine surrounded by a seascape features virtual environments for children to discover. Onboard the blue and yellow submarine has 16 interactive computers stations for fun-filled individual or group games.

Cinderella’s Royal Ball – Young guests can feel like royalty as Cinderella shows them how to be a prince or princess.

Detective School – Train to be a junior detective and then put your new sleuthing skills to the test when you solve a mystery – Disney style!

Flubber – Join Professor Goo to create a squishy green substance that looks like “Flubber!” Take home a sample of your creation.

Sebastian’s Junkanoo Jam – Get your mini-groove on! The dance floor awaits eager youngsters who enjoy singing and moving to great tunes.

Disney’s Oceaneer Lab Activities Include:

Ages 8-10 on Disney Magic Ages 8-12 on Disney Wonder

Goofin’ Around with Animation – Kids explore the history of animation and learn animator secrets as they draw one of their favorite Disney characters and create their own flipbook to take home.

Camp Out! Go camping in the Great Outdoors – onboard the ship! Pitch a tent, and then gather ’round for 75 minutes of singing, storytelling and games!

Disney’s Kim Possible: Cruise Control – Join forces with Kim, Ron and Wade to foil Dr. Drakken’s evil plan to return the ship to Port Canaveral and turn Castaway Cay into “Evil Island.”

Ratatouille Cooking School – Join a specially trained cookie chef, and learn how to make chocolate chip cookies fit for Remy himself. Have fun helping friends, adding lots of different ingredients and in the end, creating your very own cookies straight from the Ratatouille restaurant magic oven.

Piston Cup Challenge – Enjoy good clean sailing fun in the cleanest regatta on the high seas with racers made from bars of soap.

Animal Tracking Series – Children discover that conservation can be fun as they learn about endangered animals, create an animal tracking device and locate (plush) cotton-top tamarin monkeys using telemetry tracking on Castaway Cay. Ages 11-13

Boyz & Girlz Chill – Take a break from the action and chill out while you enjoy getting to know new friends and planning which awesome activity to do next.

Disney Game Show – Lights, camera, action! Take the stage for this amazingly fun test of your Disney knowledge.

Hangin’ in Aloft/The Stack/Vibe – Watch a movie, meet new friends or check out the coolest video games in the hottest spot to chill out. Pizza Perfection (Disney Magic) Answer trivia questions to win pizza toppings and create the perfect pizza. After the game is over, the pizzas are cooked and shared by all. Road Tour (Disney Magic) Embark on a jammin’ scavenger hunt throughout the ship as you work to gather stamps to fill your rock ‘n’ roll passport by solving music-themed brain teasers and puzzles. A Pirate’s Life for Me (Disney Magic) Arrr you pirate enough? Compete in physical challenges and answer trivia questions about ye olde time scalawags and buccaneers in this game to see who will claim the infamous pearl. Be a Star (Disney Dream) Thanks to 3 green screen rooms that are located at Edge, tweens are invited to become the stars of the show. Through the use state-of-the-art video technology, they can easily superimpose their image in both photo postcards and video karaoke, ensuring an unforgettable “immersive” experience unlike any other.

Teen Activities Include:

Edge – A cool tween hotspot to be sure, Edge features a vast array of hi-tech entertainment, including an illuminated dance floor and tables with notebook computers for playing games or for accessing a unique onboard social media application. Perhaps the lounge’s most impressive component is a state-of-the-art video wall that stretches more than 18 feet long and nearly 5 feet tall. Comprised of 18 individual LCD screens, the video wall acts as a giant screen—its separate screens can even be divided in any combination to accommodate different-sized video feeds.

The Stack/Aloft/Vibe – Meet on your own terms in this personal space. Teens (ages 13-17 on Disney Wonder, ages 14-17 on Disney Magic, Dream and Fantasy) cruise in style in this place packed with music, movies, video games, big-screen plasma TVs, a lounge area, dance floor, Internet café and teen-only activities into the wee hours. And the counselors are always cool. Are you a teen?

Karaoke – Find your inner-rock star when you take the stage, grab a microphone and sing along with your favorite tunes.

Flounder’s Reef Nursery/It’s A Small World Nursery  – Babysitting Disney-style is a delight for children 12 weeks to 36 months in this “under the sea” soft play area with illustrations of Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian from “The Little Mermaid.” Kids can sleep in the “quiet room” or play in the “activity room” under the watchful eyes of trained Disney caregivers. And parents are given pagers so that they can always be in touch. Be sure to book your child’s nursery stay EARLY because space is extremely limited. You can make a reservation online or during open house on Embarkation Day on a first-come, first-served basis. To check additional availability, visit Flounder’s Reef Nursery during your cruise. There is a fee of $6 per child per hour, and $5 per additional child per hour, 2-hour minimum required. The facility is open daily. Rates and times are subject to change and services are subject to availability. Please note: For the safety and enjoyment of all, Disney’s operation has been designed for children to participate in age-appropriate groups, which allows them to interact both socially and comfortably with peers of their own age and size. Disney is unable to provide one-on-one care.

Dine and Play – Recently introduced, Dine and Play allows families to enjoy dinner together, then gives kids more time to enjoy youth activities while parents relax at the end of the meal. With Dine and Play, parents may check their children (ages 3 to 12) into evening youth activities during second seating in all of the main dining rooms. Families enjoy dinner together, then youth counselors whisk children away to play so the grown-ups can savor some time together in the adult-exclusive areas of the ship.
